Max is a British artist based in Los Angeles, where he also serves as the director and head curator of the Torrance Art Museum. His large-scale abstract paintings are known for their bright colors and the incorporation of specific objects, photographs, graffiti, and eraser marks, all of which reference his identity and personal experiences. Max draws upon his life’s work as a subject matter, exploring themes ranging from the existential question of what painting means to perceptions of existence and death, to the concept of masculine codes, both temporal and political.
